When I received the Target newsletter in my email with the subject line “Take A Peek: the Neiman Marcus + Target Collection” – I instantly felt warm all over. I took a peek. I started my Christmas wish list.
I’m the person who has all my gift shopping done by the end of November so I don’t have to be a part of the chaos in the stores the closer it gets to the end of the year; however, none of these items go on sale until the first of December, plus it’s a limited edition collection with limited quantities. Even though items can be purchased at both Target and Neiman Marcus stores and online at each outlet’s website, doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy to get what I want.
I remember the frenzy from the launch of Missoni in 2011 crashing Target’s website and throngs of people ransacking the stores buying anything and everything they could get their hands on. Thankfully, to ensure the madness doesn’t happen again Target and Neiman Marcus has put a limit on the number of the same item a person can purchase per transaction at five.
This collaboration is also for a good cause. Target and Neiman Marcus will donate $1 million to the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), an invitation only nonprofit trade association with 400 members who are leaders in the industry for jewelry, accessory, menswear and womanswear in the U.S.
Designers for this launch include: Alice + Olivia, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders, Brian Atwood, Carolina Herrera, Marchesa, Oscar de la Renta, Philip Crangi, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam Diane von Furstenberg, Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu, Judith Leiber, Lela Rose, Marc Jacobs, rag & bone, Robert Rodriguez, Rodarte, Skaist-Taylor, Thom Browne, Tory Burch, and Tracy Reese.
Next on my shopping list, the Neiman Marcus Annual Christmas book…
Last week I received an exciting invitation from The Venetian Las Vegas to attend a press conference as an invited guest to witness the announcement their newest limited engagement headliners. I was tickled to be included because Las Vegas hasn’t had entertainment news this big since the opening of The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, plus I’d almost forgotten the magnitude of a big announcement, and all the planning that goes into it for a Strip property because it has been many years since I worked for a hotel group.
I had been wondering who the major headliners were going to be ever since a teaser announcement was made at the opening of The Bourbon Room in June. I really had no idea until Chris Saldaña posted it on his Facebook page this morning, then I got really excited because it’s the hottest couple in country music and I am a fan.
This is sure to cause a frenzy to purchase tickets and count on this show selling out quickly the same way Garth Brooks does at Wynn Las Vegas and Shania Twain’s SHANIA: STILL THE ONE at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace (opening December 1.) It will be next to impossible the first two weekends with the NFR in town so unless you plan on attending months in advance and during the slow time of the year like after New Year’s but before Valentine’s Day weekend ̶ good luck!

Such a great message
Back in 2005, I read Joan Didion’s book “The Year of Magical Thinking” after hearing much acclaim for the author and the book. I was underwhelmed and said so in my Amazon Review at the time. Yet, it rankled me that so many others were on the other side. (Why? Perhaps, I just missed what was readily understood by the intellectuals. Maybe you just didn’t get it Pal.)
So, more than 7 years later – I trip across a post at Brainpickings.org on Joan Didion’s 1968 collection of essays in Slouching Towards Bethlehem. My head immediately snaps to attention.
Oh what delicious irony…the excerpts are “On Self-Respect.” (Excerpts on ‘On Self-Respect.’ Deepak Sharma would say ‘Nothing is a Coincidence.’)
The post left me shaking my head. (Sweet Jesus. I did miss something. Apparently I missed everything.)
On to the excerpts…

It’s always good to try something new at least once a month. So when Ryan Slattery reached out to me to write a brief for Caesars Entertainment‘s in-room magazine Vegas Player, I said why not? I love to write and I miss editorial writing (check out some of my past work on my business website http://2girlsconsulting.com.) I have a love affair with words, especially when the words involve food.
My assignment was to try KGB: Kerry Simon’s Burgers and Shakes at Harrah’s. I called Ryan and he met me for lunch. Keep in mind I try to avoid overindulgence more than twice a month, but savory comfort food from an Iron Chef is hard to turn down. KGB is lip-smacking goodness and there is something for even the most finicky eater like myself.
The menu features childhood favorites with a gourmet twist like creamy mac and cheese sticks with white cheddar dipping sauce ($7/$6) along with the unforgettable sloppy Joe updated with braised short ribs, onions and pickles ($13/$12.) Or build your own handcrafted burger and pair it with a signature shake like the amusing Captain Crunch and smooth Espresso or beloved orange Creamsicle float ($7/$6) and if you are total rewards card member you get a discount hence the two prices.
I took trying something new to heart and ordered the Lamb Burger made with Tzatziki sauce, red onion, lettuce, and roasted red peppers on an onion roll ($15/$14), sweet onion rings ($4.) I am not a fan of lamb. I actually hate lamb unless it’s in a gyro hidden by a mixture of beef, vegetables and seasonings, but I was trying something new. It was good. I ate half and took the rest to my boyfriend James who’s most favorite food on Earth is lamb. Ryan inhaled the Cobb Burger made with cheese, avocado, tomato salsa and red pepper aioli on a sesame brioche bun. We slit an Espresso shake that I sucked down in a matter of minutes it was so good. It would have been even better if it had a shot of vodka in it, however it was the middle of the day.
With so much to choose from, it can become overwhelming. Make it easy and have the decision made for you by asking the server about KGB’s new special burger and shake of the month. For April it’s an Italian Burger made with Pancetta, mozzarella sticks, Parmesan crisp, mixed greens, tomato, balsamic-basil aioli, served with marinara, on an onion roll served with a side of marinara sauce paired with a Tiramisu milkshake. May features a Carne Asada Burger marinated with Cotija cheese, fried tortilla strips, fresh guacamole, lime marinated peppers and onions, roasted tomatillo cilantro mayo, on a jalapeño cheddar bun along with a Mexican Hot Chocolate Milkshake made with homemade chocolate ice cream flavored with classic Mexican hot chocolate spices and garnished with whipped cream and a cinnamon biscotti.

Like I said before, any reason to get together with friends and celebrate is a good reason. Last month, a few of us had a great time inside Hyde Bellagio with Condè Nast Traveler magazine as the publication celebrated its eighteenth annual Gold List, a reader’s poll recognizing elite resorts, cruise lines and hotel around the world.

Me and my boyfriend James who is a Process Improvement Analyst and Six Sigma Site Leader at Medco Health Solutions

Brad Masterson, Vice President Y Public Relations and his lovely wife Yvette, somewhere schmoozing, extended the invitation.

Chris Kratochwill, Technical Service Manager CityCenter and his fashionable wife Jenn, Public Relations Director Nevada Ballet Theatre

Ogonna Atamoh Associate Attorney at Law at Santoro, Driggs, Walch, Kearney, Holley & Thompson and James

Me with my sweet friend and recently engaged sbe Hyde Bellagio Director of Sales and owner of Andrea Eppolito Events

My two favorite people Ryan Slattery, Managing Editor at Onboard Media and international traveler Rei Bollozos

I love Pinterest. It’s the most fun I’ve had online in a long time. It’s so simple to share all my likes and dislikes in a story of pictures. I’d heard about the new social site taking the world by storm one pin at a time, but never checked it out. My new fixation started last week when my childhood friend Robbie Streitenberger sent me an invite to join via Facebook.
I looked around the site and had not a clue what to do next. I was so confused. I couldn’t find any directions, and it’s in Beta. All I kept thinking “I thought this was supposed to be easy? At least, that’s what everyone been saying.”
Luckily for me a couple of days later, Eleanor Prior of Your Virtual Girl Fridaysent an email about her webinar ‘The Virtual Pinboard or Should I Say Vortex That Is Pinterest My New Love!’ and I quickly signed up. She walked me and a ton of other folks through a step-by-step process of how to fall in love with Pinterest. And the rest is history, so I thought… now if I can just figure out how to remove images from the wrong board without deleting them all together.
Thankfully, I have a bunch of friends (Lisa J, Rocky, Nikky, Lisa S) all well versed in everything Pinterest. Click on their names and follow them on Pinterest too!
Happy pinning and thank you for reading.

The holiday season is a time of year when people become more sentimental. Guilt sets in and the need to show more love becomes overwhelming. An easy way to fix this urge, is writing a hand written note. The benefits are endless. It’s satisfying and rewarding and in this age of instant gratification, a hand written note takes patience – making it personable. It takes time to pen a message. Professionally, it separates you and/or your business from the multitude of gift baskets, cupcakes, sugar cookies and e-Cards sent to clients. Personally, it’s another way of expressing love… the list is endless.
In the New Year, make it a point to take the time to write a handwritten note and express how much others mean to you.
Thank you for reading, even though this is in a blog and typed on a computer, #irony.

A year ago, Niche Media reached out to me to submit for their annual Vegas Magazine summer issue feature called Las Vegas Black Book 2010 (a profile of successful single professionals.) I was not included in the feature after submitting images, however I had the best time at my last-minute photo shoot with Rocky Nash Photography and makeup by Stephanie Peterson.
