A Super Stylish Mother-To-Bee Shower

3 Jun

I’ve been to a few baby showers in my time and I have to admit I am not a fan of the traditional baby shower format. I hate when I have to guess how big the mother-to-be is in width. I’m sure she hates it too. Please don’t ask me to “diaper the baby” in a relay or team either. It’s a doll, not real and I would not use one hand in real life so what’s the point? However, when I received an unexpected invitation in the mail to attend Courtney Rogers-Werner’s Mother-To-Bee, I knew it was going to be a fabulous affair because she is super stylish. Upon arrival, I was given a mini safety-pin and a string to tie around my wrist and told “Don’t Say Baby,” the most popular game, and that was it. Just my type of party! The next time we played a game was right before she opened all her gifts of love. It was the memory game of guessing how many items and what they are on the tray. Whoever guessed the most won a nice gift. Congratulations to Ashley Bell.

If you plan on throwing an upscale baby shower here’s some helpful tips from Courtney’s celebration to make it extra special:

  1. Customize and mail the invite and require an RSVP.
  2. Have a fun yet sophisticated theme.
  3. Greet guest at the door and give any directions necessary.
  4. Limit the number of games to a select few.
  5. Cater the food.
  6. Hire a bartender to serve wine and champagne.
  7. Have groovy music.
  8. Hire a photographer or videographer.
  9. Make the cake amazing.
  10. Relax and have fun.

Celebrating the 2012 Season Grand Opening of Encore Beach Club

30 Apr

Me and Grace Russell

Tiësto

Last Sunday, James and I hung out at Encore Las Vegas as a guest of Wynn public relations darling Grace Russell and Las Vegas Nightlife Group and. It was a special media VIP event celebrating the 2012 Season Grand Opening of Encore Beach Club with the super famous Tiësto as he kicked off his Wynn DJ residency. The party was also hosted by Sara Underwood, voted “Hottest Woman of 2012” by Esquire magazine, according to the invite. We didn’t see her in the throngs of beautiful 20-somethings fist pumping, jumping and posing in the hot sun.

Lucky for us, we camped out inside the air conditioned Surrender Nightclub which served as the VIP room. I love special media events like this because I get to see some of my favorite industry peeps and catch up on what new in their lives. Our gracious hosts set our pitchers of blueberry lemonade, the sister to their famous skinny lemonade, champagne and beer to go alongside lolli-chicken pops, grilled artichokes and meatballs.

Me and David Schnitzer

One thing about working in PR and marketing is the amount of people I get to encounter via email or phone call and rarely meet face to face, so I was excited to finally meet David Schnitzer who handles public relations and marketing for Surrender Nightclub, Encore Beach Club and Society Café. He is such a cutie pie and bears a striking resemblance to Glee’s Blaine Anderson (a.k.a. actor Darren Chris) just checks out his Twitter profile picture (@DaSchnitz.) I think I have a crush – lol.

Me and Susan Stapleton

That day was also a great time to catch up with Susan Stapleton and pick her brain on the where to eat right now in Las Vegas. After a few suggestions she directed me and James to The 38 Essential Las Vegas Restaurants, April ’12 on Eater Vegas of which she is the editor. I shared a laugh with the very fit and tan Mark Gray, and give a hug to Doug Elfman who I haven’t seen in nearly a year. It was also a chance to say hi to Sean Christie who doesn’t seem to age and is as handsome as ever.

After a couple of hours, a several laughs and a few cocktails, it was time to go. One question James and I was finally able to answer is: How do headlining DJs get a chance to go to the bathroom when guest are paying $100 a head for general admission?

Answer: They put on a really long song and run to a restroom. Ahhhhh….

Any Reason is a Good Reason to Celebrate

30 Jan

I love the company of friends. I will find any reason to have a get together, and Chinese New Year made finding an excuse to celebrate easy. I tend to plan in my head weeks in advance what will be on the menu, who to invite, what I will wear, what music will be playing in the background, etc. In my mind, my gathering will look and feel like I hired David Tutera, then reality sets in and I am running around last-minute buying candles, flowers/plants, decorations, food, wine and spirits.

For this party, James and I had a buffet of Asian inspired dishes. Here is the menu and links to the recipes.

MLK and Le Cirque at Bellagio

MLK banquet invite

Saturday night started out with me attending the 30th Anniversary King Banquet at the Flamingo Hotel  during Martin Luther King weekend with my beautiful mother. We attended on behalf of my lifelong friend Cedric Crear. My mother loves events like this so when I asked her if she would be my date I got a definite yes. The guest speaker was Mayor Kasim Reed of Atlanta, I have to admit I did not hear because I left a bit after dessert was served. It was uncomfortably cold in the ballroom and the program was running long, but the message of why I was there was not forgotten. I left to spend some time with my good friend Rocky who was across the street at the Bellagio.

Rocky Nash

Earlier that day, she surprised me via Skype asking if I wanted to meet up after the event because she was in Vegas for a few days. I did not realize how much I missed our girl time until I was able to give her a hug. I refer to Rocky as my savvy international traveler since she is always on the move globally. Last year she lived in China and visited Sweden. Several weeks ago she was in Paris and now she lives in New York City. I love Skype. It makes it seem as if she is just across town when we video chat.

Bellagio is such a beautiful property. We met in the lobby under the exquisite chandelier made of glass by sculptor Dale Chihuly then took in the Chinese New Yeardisplay at the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens before heading over to the AAA Five Diamond rated Le Cirquefor a glass of wine and some much needed girl talk. We sat at the cozy bar in the lounge and engaged in conversation with William the bartender and waited for her friend Stephani to join us.

Le Cirque Lounge

I am a diehard lover of red wine – the fuller the body the better, but after one glass, he turned us on to the French 75 (I’ll place the recipe at the end of this post) and literally had me licking my martini glass and rethinking my drink options. As she’s telling me about her whirlwind trip to Vegas the pastry chef delighted us with an array of scrumptious desserts. Nothing is better than lots of chocolate from a French chef.

It was getting late so I said good night and headed home as they continued to Hyde (I will have more on the new luxurious spot in another post coming soon…)

French 75

  • 1/2 ounces St. Germain
  • 2 ounces cucumber infused vodka
  • Splash of sweet and sour
  • Top off with champagne

In a chilled cocktail shaker add some ice and shake well, then strain into a chilled martini glass and top off with champagne.
